小島的最高處，蓋了一座燈塔，引領著船隻航行的方向。從清晨到夜晚，它發著光，就像在和船隻說「哈囉，哈囉！歡迎」。燈塔來了新的管理員，他為燈塔添油，擦拭燈具，記錄海象，空暇時間則用來重新粉刷燈塔，有時釣釣魚，有時開始坐在書桌前寫寫信，真希望有人可以講話──每隔幾天，他會為她寫信。今天的風浪特別洶湧，哈囉說的鏗鏘有力，透過望遠鏡，管理員看到了送來食物日用品的船隻。也看到了來陪伴他的妻子。在這裡，他們一起照顧落難的船員，也照顧生病的彼此，更和可愛的新成員展開新的家庭生活。照例，補給船又送來油、食物和新書，這次則多捎來一封信──管理員知道在這燈塔的日子不久了。燈塔換了新科技燈具，已經不需有人守著維護，管理員一家帶著行囊，輕輕向燈塔揮別「再見了」。換上新燈具的燈塔，繼續盡責地發出光芒，向船隻說哈囉，也向移居陸地的管理員一家，像老朋友般熱情地揮手「哈囉！哈囉！」。
